AS3 Performance is a specialist performance car parts retailer. When the June 2025 Core Update rolled out with MUVERA at its core, AS3 was among the sites that felt it: rankings dropped across key product and category pages. The issue wasn’t content quality; it was structure. Pages were optimised for single keywords without addressing the range of questions a buyer actually has when researching performance parts.

The problem

MUVERA broke queries into multiple components. For a search like “performance exhaust for BMW 3 series,” Google was now looking for pages that addressed specification, compatibility, fitment, and performance outcomes together. AS3’s pages were strong on product detail but didn’t connect those facets in a way MUVERA could map to multi-intent queries.

The result was a ranking drop across commercial terms that the site had previously held well. Traffic from organic search fell noticeably within weeks of the update completing.

What I did

Content structure rebuilt for multi-intent

Key product and category pages were restructured to address the full range of questions a buyer has at that stage: what does it do, what cars does it fit, what performance gains can be expected, how does it compare to alternatives, and what does installation involve. Each of these is a separate component in a MUVERA query. Covering them together on one well-structured page rather than fragmented across separate posts is what Google now rewards.

Heading hierarchy and internal linking

Page structure was reviewed to ensure H2 and H3 hierarchies reflected genuine topic relationships rather than keyword-led headings. Internal linking between related categories, compatibility pages, and product families was strengthened so Google could map the site’s topical coverage accurately.

FAQ sections on key pages

FAQ blocks were added to commercial pages addressing the questions buyers actually ask: fitment queries, compatibility questions, and installation guidance. These directly match the conversational format both MUVERA and AI search tools are built to respond to, and they improve click-through from search results by answering objections before the visitor arrives.

The data from Google Search Console tells the story clearly. Clicks peaked at 3,326 per week in late April 2025, dropped to 2,452 by the week of 23 June, a 26% fall. Average position slipped from 12.24 to 14.82 over the same period. Within two weeks of the structural changes being implemented, weekly clicks were back above 3,100 and position was recovering. By September, average position had reached 8.30, meaningfully better than the pre-update baseline. The drop was structural, not a content quality issue, and the recovery confirmed it.

Key takeaway

The June 2025 Core Update with MUVERA was the first major ranking signal change that specifically penalised single-intent pages in favour of multi-intent content. Sites that had strong content but fragmented structure. Each page covering one narrow aspect was caught by it. The fix is not to write more content; it is to structure existing content so that each page answers the complete question a visitor has at that stage of the journey.

If your site took a hit in the June 2025 update, the diagnosis is usually structural. Get in touch and I will tell you exactly what needs to change.
