Who we are
Burfield Digital Limited is a private limited company registered in England and Wales. Our company number is 05980969. We trade as SEOBurf. Our registered office is at The Island House, Midsomer Norton, Bath, BA3 2DZ. Our contact address is Byfields, Wells Road, Radstock, Somerset, BA3 3US. You can reach us at [email protected]. James Burfield is responsible for our data.
The short version
Some technical information is collected automatically when anyone visits (to keep the site secure and working), and the rest comes from what you choose to send us or accept. Google Analytics only runs if you click Accept, while a cookie-free tool, Plausible, counts visits without identifying anyone. We share information with service providers to help us run the site and manage your contact form and newsletter. We never share it for anyone else’s marketing. You can stop Google Analytics at any time.
What we collect and why
The contact form
A contact form is on our website. It asks for your name, email address, phone number if you choose to give it, and your message. We collect it so we can reply to your message and, if you become a client, carry out the work you ask us to do.
The form sends an email to [email protected]. We don’t store the details on the website itself. The emails are kept in our email account, which is hosted by 20i. If you accepted analytics cookies, the email also includes information about how you found the site.
We keep the emails for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows. We delete them when they’re no longer needed.
Our legitimate interest is in answering enquiries people send us and taking steps at your request before any contract.
Spam protection
The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to stop spam. It runs only on the contact page. It sends Google information about your device and how you use the page, so Google can tell if you’re a person or a bot.
This is our legitimate interest in protecting the form and our inbox from abuse.
The newsletter
At the bottom of every page, there’s a box to join the weekly SEO roundup. It asks for your email address, and that’s all we collect. We use it to send you the email you asked for.
The list is managed by Mailchimp. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link in the email or by emailing [email protected].
Your consent is given when you enter your email and subscribe.
We keep your email until you unsubscribe.
Analytics
If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful. A banner offers Accept and Reject as equal buttons. Google Analytics is not loaded and its cookies are not set until you click Accept.
It records which pages you visit, how you arrived (for example a search engine, a link from another site, or typing the address), your approximate location at town or country level, and your device and browser type.
The measurement ID is G-6K6GYC29SL. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. It does not identify you by name.
We don’t use it for advertising. We keep it for up to 14 months. You have to accept for it to run. The legal basis is your consent. Only Google Analytics depends on the Accept button.
Plausible Analytics
We also use Plausible Analytics to understand which pages are useful. It runs without a banner because it sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser.
It records the page you visit, the referring website, campaign tags in the link, your browser and operating system, your device type, and your approximate location (country, region, city). It does not store IP addresses or raw browser strings.
The data is processed and stored in the EU. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding which pages are used, with no cookies and no data that identifies a person.
The enquiry-source cookie
We store information about where you came from in a cookie called sb_attr. It holds the first page you landed on, the website that sent you, and any campaign tags in the link. It is not sent anywhere else.
We use it only when you send an enquiry through the contact form. The information is added to the email so we can see how you found the site. It lasts 90 days and is based on your consent.
Security and hosting
Every visit to the site goes through Cloudflare, which helps protect the site and make it load faster. It processes your IP address as part of that.
The site is hosted by 20i, and their servers keep standard technical logs of requests, which include IP addresses. This is our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working.
Cookies and browser storage
We use these cookies:
_ga: Google Analytics, used to distinguish one visitor from another. Expires after two years. Only after Accept._ga_6K6GYC29SL: Google Analytics, used to keep track of the current visit (the session). Expires after two years. Only after Accept.sb_attr: enquiry source, as above. 90 days. Only after Accept.sb-consent: remembers whether you accepted or rejected. Stored in your browser’s local storage, never sent anywhere.- Google reCAPTCHA may set its own cookie when the contact page loads, for spam protection.
Plausible Analytics sets no cookies.
Changing your mind about analytics
The controls on this page show your current setting. You can turn analytics on or off. Turning it off deletes the analytics and enquiry-source cookies straight away.
You can also delete cookies through your browser settings at any time.
These controls switch Google Analytics and the enquiry-source cookie only. Plausible isn’t affected because it stores nothing on your device and doesn’t identify you.
Who we share information with
We share information with the service providers named above: 20i (hosting and email), Cloudflare (security and delivery), Google (analytics and reCAPTCHA), Plausible (analytics), and Mailchimp (the newsletter). They process it on our behalf.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We may disclose it if the law requires it.
Transfers outside the UK
Google, Cloudflare and Mailchimp may process data outside the UK. Plausible processes data in the EU.
How long we keep information
We keep your information only as long as we need it. For contact form emails, that’s as long as we need to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows. We delete them when they’re no longer needed.
The analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. The enquiry-source cookie lasts 90 days. The newsletter email is kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You have the right under UK GDPR to be told how your data is used, to access it, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to restrict its use, to object, and to request data portability.
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing does not affect what happened before.
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will reply within one month.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator. Visit ico.org.uk or call 0303 123 1113.
